Remus Lupin figured out that Sirius Black was innocent after seeing Peter Pettigrew on the Marauder's Map, which showed Pettigrew alive and in his Animagus form as Scabbers. Lupin realized that if Pettigrew was alive, then Sirius could not have been the one who betrayed the Potters. Additionally, Lupin remembered that Pettigrew had been the Potters' Secret-Keeper, not Sirius, and therefore it was Pettigrew who had betrayed them. Lupin's realization ultimately led to the revelation of Pettigrew's true allegiance and Sirius's innocence. **
