The main difference between a red onion and a white onion is their flavor profile. Red onions tend to be milder and slightly sweeter in taste compared to white onions, which have a more pungent and sharp flavor. Additionally, red onions have a purplish-red skin and reddish rings inside, while white onions have a white papery skin and white flesh. Red onions are often preferred for raw applications like salads or sandwiches, while white onions are commonly used in cooked dishes for their stronger flavor. **
